A Few Thoughts On Tax-Deductable Charitable Donations

The Obama administration is considering removing your ability to write off your charitable donations on your income tax return. They want the activities of the charity to happen through the State.

There are at least a half dozen major problems with the current status quo, but the plain truth is, this is another example of how BHO is an evil statist, the benevolent dictator de Toqueville warned you about. But that's a discussion for another time.

Charitable giving is not something you should do for beneficial tax treatment. You should be giving to a charity because you have charity.

Some people can only "afford" to give to charitable organizations because of the ability to get favorable consideration at tax time. Some people only "give" so they can get into a different taxation rate. By the amounts that those categories of people give to charitable organizations, donations will be reduced if the favorable tax treatment is deleted.

Note: this happens if the fascisti in office transfer do-gooder functions to the State, OR if the Fair Tax (which latter proposal I endorse) is implemented as designed.

Some people give because they care. The VFD clan has an income stream that is reduced by xx% because we believe in and want to be a part of the work that our church and its associate groups do. Removing favorable tax treatment of charitable donations would reduce our giving by the following amount:

When we do our taxes, we run the numbers two ways: with and without our charitable donations deduction. There is usually a return both ways, but it is bigger with that deduction. The difference in the two "refunds" is put straight into a check to our favorite charitable organization.

Now, if they started making charitable organizations start paying taxes, THAT would be a problem. There are probably hundreds of thousands of Good Things being done by private charities that will NEVER be done by the State. Taxing the charities will shut down (I presume) MOST of them. Therefore taxing charitable organizations will cause the Good that they do to STOP.

Making Good Things stop happening is EVIL.

Taxing charitable organizations is therefore EVIL.

Have a nice day.

Of course I know the plan was unanimously defeated when our Elected Heroes voted on it. That doesn't mean The Lightworker doesn't want to do it anymore, it just means he's going to have to wait, probably at least until 2010.
