I Know What You Did Last Summer Weekend

This past Thanksgiving holiday weekend was one of the better ones in recent memory. My sister A.W. and her husband and three sons all came out from Houston to stay at Dad's place. We went out Thursday early afternoon, and after a little prep time, we ate. And ate. And ate. And talked, and ate. You get the idea. After dinner we went for a walk about a mile or so down the road and back, all of us... 6 adults, 6 children, 5 dogs (it's just outside BFE*, so there's about zero car traffic). Good stuff. The children spent a lot of time running around Dad's property and jumping on the trampoline. The babies got into a couple of traffic jams in their walkers, which was high comedy in person, especially when they started jabbering at each other.

Friday we went out again. We arrived after almost everyone had left to go shopping, so a couple of naps were snuck in there by mommies and a couple of children. Leftovers were eaten in, if possible, greater quantity than the day before.

Saturday we went out there again after attending a wedding and part of the reception (congratulations to L&L B.! ). I was an usher in the wedding and #1 was the Flower Girl. One of the men from the church said he'd seen rehearsal weddings go worse... everything went about as well as could be expected, and a good time was apparently had by all. Anywho, we left from the reception about 10 minutes later than was prudent. We changed into street clothes at Dad's place, having let ourselves in because everyone else had gone. My sister K. was in the Johnston City High School marching band in the parade, and everyone with a watch or cell-phone clock had already set off and found a place to sit on the courthouse square in Johnston City. We arrived at the square just as the beginning of the parade was going by, and managed to see my sister after all! We were walking around the edge of the parade route and were about to ask some folks to let us by, and they turned out to be our family; we got to enjoy the parade together after all. The polish sausage and funnel cake filled the last tiny bit of available stomach I had left after the Chicken Cordon Bleu x3 etc. at the reception. The children had supper at Dad's after we got back to base, and I was tie-urd. L. was good enough to drive us home again. Thank God, #3 slept straight through the night and then of course Sunday was all church and naps.

Monday got off to a bit of a slow start.

...I begin to percieve how people can gain weight during the last couple of holidays in the year. My daily diet is apparently about enough to keep me alive. A combination of cheapness frugality and business at work keep me from eating much during the day, and L. usually has some healty thing or other at the house. But this last weekend, I ate so much I think I'm still full. Wow.
