Earth Day 2012
For earth day, I laid down a strip of rubber pulling away from a stop light and left some lights on with nobody in the room. You're welcome.

Scientists Discover Earth Has A Self-Cleaning Cycle
Preamble: It is laughable how people who wish to not believe God invented the world will twist their minds around facts. There is a greatly inflated sense of self importance in certain "scientific" circles these days, thinking we could destroy our ecosystem by merely living in it.
***
God is both infinitely smarter than the average bear AND not really giving us verbal messages much these days. So imagine the pleasure of one who believes that the Earth is a self-correcting system designed to sustain mankind . . . when a particle theorized before the global warmening craze existed turns out to be real. And it comes from plants and scrubs pollutants out of the air.
Good job, God. Way to be smarter.

Trying Their Luck?
The climate conference in Durban has apparently come to a deal. They have agreed to agree to something over the next five years, and in another five years it would go into effect.
They agreed to:
Global taxation/wealth redistribution for poor countries' benefit
Third world countries have to use the same expensive clean technology as everybody else
You have to participate, it will be legally binding
All of this, of course, will be pretty hard to cram down the throats of the people of the civilized world. Look for backing from watermelon/closet socialists, rich people who make money either way making the transactions, manufacturers of "green" technology, and especially the leaders of crooked 3rd world "developing" nations who will be happy to steal whatever money they can that is supposed to go toward making their environment cleaner.
The loser, if the deal can be brought to life?
You.

End of 2012, End of The World!
I finally realized why the Mayan calendar stops at 2012: the world is going to burn up! No, seriously, follow me here. You know how your calendar has 13 or 15 months on it, just so you can have plenty of time to get another one and still know what day it is next Tuesday? They didn't stop the calendar at 2012 because of that, although it is a pretty long overrun for any calendar*. No, they stopped the calendar at 2012 because the Kyoto Protocol is set to expire at the end of 2012. Currently, with the world cooling for the past decade, it is dubious that enough political will exists to renew or strengthen the protocol.
So that's it. Global warming will kill us all, started by the hot air that will be coming from the mouths of insider-traders and politicians (but I repeat myself) who will be protesting the end of the Kyoto Protocol. My take on the whole thing:
Good riddance to bad rubbish!
********
*The little known fact is that the Mayan economy was largely built on calendar publication. They sold one to everybody which is how they got to be such a large and wealthy empire. The collapse of the Mayan civilization began when their customers figured out there would never (in their lifetimes) be a need to purchase a second calendar. Once everybody had one for every room in their house, plus one at the office and a small one for the car, plus a pocket version (laminated to protect it from sweatybalz) sales plummeted and the civilization just fell apart. True story.**

Global Non-Warming Getting Harder to Deny!
The temperature plot for the last decade is a solid no-change ZERO increase/decrease average. But you don't get research grant money to continue to "study" anthropogenic global warming when the globe is neither warming nor cooling.

If you are still on the fence with regard to AGW, here are a few more points to ponder:

If you are still on the fence with regard to AGW, here are a few more points to ponder:
- If hurricanes increase in warm times, why were they worse a hundred years ago?
- Do plants contribute less of one greenhouse gas then there is more of the other?
- If the models are wrong, you get new models . . . and the models can't replicate the activity from polar vortices well at all!

More News That Sounds Like A Joke!
We must not kill the endangered species. The world stops when we threaten them, no matter the cost! Wind power will save us from the evil, evil carbon. No matter the cost! Now a joke has become an in-real-life headline: Wind turbine power plant shut down at night for killing endangered bats.

Obama Administration: Hiding Their Lies, Top-Down
Not only were they lying to you about global warming climate change, they knew they were lying, and went to such an extent to hide their lies as to make a whole separate cloud where they could exchange electronic communications in what they THOUGHT was a region beyond the scope of Freedom of Information Act requests.
They thought wrong. This is yet another huge, scandalous cover-up story for the lamestream press to ignore.

Crooked? These Guys? Never!
The Environmental Protection Agency did a bad job on the studies, had one of their cronies on the panel, failed to release the studies to the public, and then clearly failed to apply logic to their assessment of their rulings's economic impact. They were studying whether the gas you produce as you breathe out is poison. It has been declared poison, and the EPA regulates it. At the time, one man in the agency was vilified for speaking out against the scientific farce underway. Turns out he was right.
Now is the time to write your Congressman. The economy of our nation is about to be crushed under watermelon* regulations. And they are planning to do nothing about it. Congress MUST force the EPA to re-do this ridiculous study, properly. If they do that, the result must be different or there is no point in having an America anymore.
That the timing of the EPA's declaration is highly political should not be a surprise. The Obama administration is crooked as . . . well, crooked as a Chi-town politician. Sad, but not surprising.

Global Climate Modles Thrown For Another Loop?
What does it do for planetary heat circulation to have a 250-mile wide river moving a million gallons per minute? How does it affect earthquakes? Well I'm guessing nobody knows, but there is one, MILES BELOW the Amazon river. Seriously.

Actual Science, By Independents
At Watts Up With That we have an interesting thing: someone looking at data and drawing conclusions. No university tenure or grants seem to be involved.
One could only wish this sort of thing were more commonplace.
In this case, we find a hypothesis coming out of the data that clouds and storms regulate the temperature of the world's oceans. If you are not a believer in AGW as preached by the radical leftists of the world, this might make sense.

Arctic Sea Ice Melt Dramatically Accelerating!
Unexpectedly!
Just now, there is a fun thing happening: the sea ice is melting less quickly, so much it shows on the graphs. The same thing happened in 2002 . . . shortly afterward, the ice began melting more quickly by quite a lot, and then reverted to the trend. Expect this year's ice to measure approximately as much as all other recent years in the final analysis.
Good science reporting: makes for lousy headlines. "Now I'm No Expert But . . . " don't be surprised, if the melting speeds up, to see headlines about that, but not about this - and no mention that it's "all in the noise" anyway.
Pretty graphs at Watts Up With That

Global Warming Scare: Can We Stick a Fork In It Yet?
The earth starts shedding heat into space far sooner, and does it at a far greater rate, than predicted by "computer models intentionally designed to show disastrous warming trends in the future" "computer models." Almost like someone intelligent designed the system?
And (as heard on Rush on the home from the endodontist): Remember those polar bears drowning in the ocean because they couldn't find any more ice to climb onto? Those reports were also made-up and the scientist who proclaimed the problem is under investigation.
“There are simply too many variables to reliably gauge the right number for that,” Spencer said. “The main finding from this research is that there is no solution to the problem of measuring atmospheric feedback, due mostly to our inability to distinguish between radiative forcing and radiative feedback in our observations.”

Global Warming: Not Here, Not Your Fault Anyway
From Watt's Up With That? we have two humm-dingers you will 100% fo-sho not see on your televisors tonight:
If you look only at the weather stations not affected by the Urban Heat Island effect (air in cities gets hotter as they get bigger) then you have 80 stations reporting NO temperature trend in the lower 48 United States over the last century. Global warming? Not!
And:
The sun, it warms the planet, yes? Yes but, you say? How about cosmic radiation has a 3.8x stronger influence on global climate than previously estimated. The global warming models must ALL be revised, because they are ALL wrong, by almost a factor of FOUR, when calculating the effect of cosmic radiation. At best. Oopsy.

Melting Sea Ice _______ The Sea Level
Fill in the blank. It's a one question quiz that the reporters at Yahoo failed totally to pass. Kick them back to middle school science class.
If you have an ice cube in a glass of water and let it sit and melt, does the water level in the glass rise, fall, or remain exactly the same? Those of you who paid attention in school (or at the bar) will know that the level of the water in your glass will stay the same.
If you have a sheet of ice that covers 1/30th of the earth's surface and it is floating on the Arctic ocean, and it melts, what happens to the sea levels around the world? Bubkis. The ANTARCTIC, if it melted, would be a problem - THAT ice is not floating, it is on land. The ARCTIC, if it melts (as it does every year) is NOT a harbinger of doom. It is weather.
Don't worry. Be happy. Yahoo! story not dignified with a link out of sheer disdain for the appalling lack of scientific editorial oversight.

Not Just A Little Wrong
Possibly (likely) totally, completely bass-ackwards. Current models of antarctic ice behavior assume it builds and thins from the top. Turns out, it happens from the bottom also. Oh, and in the comments we find a second-hand report that the models were bodged to fit the data we think we know, not necessarily reflective of reality.
yeah, so . . .

20 Accidents Already!
It's been freezing here for two days solid. Now it's raining. The rain is at this moment converting to a sheet of ice on the overpasses. It is to be hoped that the State and City will be rolling sand trucks, but the News just said there are currently 20 wrecks in the Austin metropolitan area. That's a big number for rush hour -and it's the middle of the night. FOUR wrecks just on the upper decks of IH-35 which is on a few miles of elevated roadway.
Don't go anywhere. I plan on calling WM tomorrow to confirm, but it won't surprise me if they wave us off until the streets have a chance to thaw.
There was sleet on our back patio a while back, 1/8" to 1/4" balls of ice that melted on the relatively warm concrete. On the way home, snow was blowing around between the cars on the roadway. It cold outside!

Is Al Gore In Town?
They're talking about temperatures in the 16º range this week. That's 16ºF, in the middle of Texas. A possibility of snow, even. Sure it's January. As I pointed out to NP today, I think this is God's way of making fun of those persons who think we as a race are powerful enough to affect the global mean temperature.

No Blogging. Busy.
All evening I've been online, doing research. It's time to make a decision: stockpile incandescent lamps, or start using something else. My Darling Wife gets headaches and I get cranky from fluorescents and I'm not dishing out for a premium high-frequency-switched CFL to avoid the flickering. Plus the color rendering sucks. Like hell I'm spending $30 on ONE LED lamp. That leaves halogen or incandescent. Halogens are supposed to last 4x as long, and cost 4x as much if you shop around. Incandescents are the comfy, familiar, soon-to-be-illegal status quo.
So it looks like I'm off to the local Mega-Lo-Mart to buy either a GE Edison or a Philips Halogena, just to see what it's like for us in our house under a halogen bulb. Or else I'll just buy rough-duty bulbs for all the fixtures after we run out of our hoarded incandescents. Because it's not bad for the environment if a bulb is rated for harsher environments.
Wait, what?
That's right kiddies. My favorite exception to the law which was passed to please lobbyists for the expensive light bulb manufacturers: if it's a specialty bulb, you can still sell it after the ban. Need a 100W incandescent in 2012? Buy a ceiling fan vibration-resistant type and slap it in the stationary ceiling fixture. It still burns the same 100W for the same 1700 lumens, but because it is "Special" it does not kill Mother Earth as badly. So saith the United States Congress. What a load of [deleted].
I guess there was a little time torant blog after all.

If I'm A Crank, I'm Not The Only One.
In the face of cold hard reality, even scientists (who normally spend their days in caves labs well away from the public eye) are speaking out against the sham. a thousand of them have come out and said the UN IPCC report's published conclusions are bunk.
But hey, Rosie o'Donnel and Barry Obama believe in global warming, so who you gonna trust?
