The system is broken. Badly broken, and beyond repair. I repeat my hunch that our society is headed for breakup in a big way. The news I got today was just another reminder.
There's a video on Youtube showing people voting multiple times. No, not average citizens casting a half-dozen election year vote-fraud votes. These were legislators, casting ballots for other legislators who were absent at the time of the vote, making the laws that you and I live by. In one case, a legislator who was PRESENT had someone else cast a vote for him . . . while he was casting a vote for someone else!
Nota bene: It was against their OWN rules they made for themselves for legislators to vote for each other on the voting machines. This video shows them doing it. No, it shows ALL of them doing it. Either they do it or they let it happen. The Speaker of the House was supposed to be punishing this sort of thing but it didn't happen. The Speaker is supposed to make sure the rules are followed, but look how concerned they all are.
An extra kick in the stones is that you didn't hear about a wave of prosecutions after this video came out FOUR YEARS ago. One more kick for those of us from Texas, because it's happening here.
********
Legislators jogging around to beat each other to empty desks to push buttons.
TWO examples of fat guys pushing their own button, then the button on the desk next door, then the on a desk behind, and then a fourth button on the desk behind/next door!.
Watch.
Then either complain to the Speaker, or shut the hell up and watch our society fall apart. I'm guessing the result is the same. This was in 2008. Who wants to bet there's a rule for ALL the legislatures in Texas forbidding this apparently-very-common multiple fraudulent voting activity?

Because We Can TELL You Are Cheating Us
Well isn't that neat. The Travis County Commissioner's Court just voted itself and a few other elected County officials a pay rise. Judge Biscoe said it would be "unreasonable" for us to expect him and a couple dozen other elected County officials to not get a cost-of-living adjustment type pay rise, in light of the bad economy. The one (of five) Commissioner who voted against the raise, said it was the economy that made the raise a bad idea.
Look Judge, I know your part-time $110k/year job is a real pain in the [deleted] but spare us, okay? You voted yourself a pay rise, and then voted to increase our taxes all in the same week. You know what? You sir are an [deleted]. If you were a value-add to the tax base, then maybe it would be justified. My boss is a value-add to the company and he hasn't given HIMself a pay rise in the last 8 years or so. You know what you are? You're a leech. You think it's all well and good to give yourself more money due to the hard times we're all in, but you are neglecting to think of the source of the funds. That "more" for you is our "less." Every family in the County now has LESS money in these hard times because YOU and your BFFs have a little MORE. You see how that works? It's almost a zero-sum game . . .
Hold on there.
Something just occurred to me. This is one of the reasons why leftists hate profit and well-paid executive positions. They can't see past the end of their noses. They wish all things to stream from government. Government employees can't increase their pay without literally taking from someone else's wallet. Therefore, making more money than you "need" is wickedness. The other side of the story is, wealth can be created. They don't get the true concept of wealth (or value, or wages, or capital risk) so they don't get why it is okay with the Greedy Republicans for rich people to be rich.
Yes?
********
I was going to go off on a rant about how we don't want an increase in the gasoline tax in Texas because the politicians keep diverting the gas tax we already pay. Some idiot in government was on the radio sounding mystified as to why the stupid voters keep hatin' on a gas tax increase. You know why we hate it? Because we can see all the waste and crap our money gets spent on, instead of roads and bridges it is supposed to go to. Jerks. What a bunch of jerks are running the show these days. Don't MAKE me run for office, people!
Well, unless I run for the Commissioner's Court. I hear that's a pretty good paycheck for a part-time gig.

So, What About It, VFD?
Next February, if the Republicrats don't take the Senate and maintain the House (with decisive majorities in both) there will either be another Deem-and-Pass shenanigans sessions to un-pass Obamacare, or sometime between now and the end of 2015 somebody will die in the fight over who gets to say if individuals must buy insurance. In a gunfight. Perhaps with some of those 16,000 new IRS agents and their new sawn-off shotguns.
You can't force some people to buy bygod-ANYTHING. If you try to force them to do what they don't want to do, they will use their own force right back. Why do you think small arms have been selling better and better every year when the rest of the economy is in a Depression?
I don't want a bloody war in my United States. The way things are going, however, one can almost hear the whine of attack helicopter engines spinning up . . . to go kill some "loud people" who just refuse to pay theirpenalty taxes.
********
Borepatch, a bit surprisingly, is giddy as a schoolgirl over how bad this decision is for the Democrats. We'll see.

Here's A Better Idea
The Legislature in Texas gerrymandered a new redistricting map that would likely give Republicans an advantage. Then a lefty court said that was raaaaaaacist and gerrymandered an entirely new map that would give Democrats an advantage. Then the lawsuit.
The supreme Court just slapped the San Antonio map drawing court on the pee-pee and said they have to START with the map made by our Elected Heroes in Austin, and then make it more legal-ish. All this, of course, because Texas might be raaaaaaaacist. After all, according to theleftists who prefer Democrats to be elected bureaucrats in the federal Department of "Justice" Texas has been raaaaacist before and might still be raaaacist by making maps that don't fairly give BROWN PEOPLE adequate representation.
Well guess what: It's 2012. The only people still worried about whether or not BROWN PEOPLE get adequate representation are STUPID OR CROOKED OR BOTH. There is no more institutional racism in the day in which we live. Get over yourselves and your stupid race hustling race pimps.
My preference: on every official form that currently has a spot for race/ethnicity, we delete that spot on the form. The datum is irrelevant to anything except getting Democrats in office and/or keeping them in power. For Congressional district maps, we make them make sense when you look at a map, with pretty close to equal population in each district. That means probably a couple of guys from Houston, Austin, and Dallas get elected as Democrats and most of the rest of the State is Republican because the rest of the state is flyover country hicks who vote republican. What does this mean in picture form?

Source: familypedia
Where there is a great big fat red spot, there is a Democrat representing leftists in big cities. Everywhere else, you add up the green and yellow in the same general area until you count enough noses to make up another seat in Congress, very likely a Republican. There. Done. How hard was that?

Voter Photo ID Laws Are NOT Racist
If anyone says they think it is raaaaaaacist to require people to show photographic proof that they are eligible to vote, that person is one of two things:
The ONLY people who have substantial* reasons to dislike positive voter identification are people who are trying to have unqualified/disqualified voters cat ballots. This is to say, Democrats and big-city machine political parties want your dead relatives and illegal alien neighbors to cast ballots to keep them in power. There are no exceptions.
********
* no exceptions except this one: a tiny number of religious people who have genuine concerns that we are marching toward the Mark of the Beast. Privacy concerns are null - this is a public ballot! Intrusive measures like retina scanning and blood draws are both overly expensive to implement AND unnecessary AND probably impossible to get into law! Yes, voter photo identification requirements are leading us down the road to the Mark of the Beast. But, by the time that rolls around, voting will be among the least of the concerns of those who don't want to take the Mark. According to my Bible, the Mark WILL come, like it or not. Do yourself a favor and don't be here when it comes into effect!

Stick America With a Fork, I Think She's Done
You, as an American citizen, in America, can be detained for an unlimited duration, without a lawyer, without charges being brought. President Obama just signed it into law. Because, you know, you could be a political adversary terrorist or something. Better safe than sorry when it comes to imprisoning people, right? Isn't that what the founders said, "It is better that one hundred innocent Persons should suffer than that one guilty person should escape?" Oh well I heard something like that was said, once.
Sure it's unconstitutional. But who will challenge it? If people are disappeared and don't get a trial, how will this ever get to the supreme Court with a party in valid standing as a plaintiff? Okay, so maybe somebody gets an injunction on principle and it's overturned by a court and the law is tossed out . . . but it was made law in the first place, by 86 of our 100 Senators and our duly elected President signed it despite "reservations" about the bill. You know what he should have done? Killed it. He would be a hero if he killed it but he signed the bill into law. What's worse people that (formerly) got MY vote voted for this monstrosity. The reasons this is a total fail overall are very many, but it might just be the single-issue for some single-issue voters that gets a bunch of people to vote against the wouldhavebeenamajority Republicans in the upcoming elections. We'll see.
I could be wrong, but I don't think I am. It's over. America as it was intended to be by the people who made it - is done. We've jumped the shark. We're now waiting for the fizzle. It was real for a minute there, though. So long, land of the free.

Things To Know About
Don't use a neti pot. They are disgusting. If you do use a neti pot, do yourself a favor and don't use non-sterile water from any source in the southern United States. Specifically don't use tap water - or you could die. Most fresh warm water 'round here has these amoebae in there somewhere. Your water heater makes them happy. Boil, distill, or buy sterile the water you pour in your nose.
Good night, can you imagine holding your child down to rinse them with a neti pot against their will, and then this happens? Wow.
The techology-ignorant want to pass a bill to help out their BFFs in the recording industry, but they would rather you don't notice. Too bad there is the internet now, and news spreads at the speed ofbloggers crosslinking each other light. With this series of tubes, we can put out word of bills written when Congress is supposed to be out of session, without the aid of subject matter experts, that make daily online activity (potentially even making a link like this) a crime. Keep praying - our contry is in deep trouble while THESE people are at the helm.

Trying Their Luck?
The climate conference in Durban has apparently come to a deal. They have agreed to agree to something over the next five years, and in another five years it would go into effect.
They agreed to:
Global taxation/wealth redistribution for poor countries' benefit
Third world countries have to use the same expensive clean technology as everybody else
You have to participate, it will be legally binding
All of this, of course, will be pretty hard to cram down the throats of the people of the civilized world. Look for backing from watermelon/closet socialists, rich people who make money either way making the transactions, manufacturers of "green" technology, and especially the leaders of crooked 3rd world "developing" nations who will be happy to steal whatever money they can that is supposed to go toward making their environment cleaner.
The loser, if the deal can be brought to life?
You.

No Exceptions
It is a violation of Federal law to have any dealings with foreign drug cartels.
Yet we have sent them money and guns, possibly also grenades.
This is illegal for our government to do, and there are no "we wanted to see where the stuff ended up" investigation exceptions. SOMEBODY better be going to prison for a long time, or America was lost altogether a long time ago.
They used to say "ignorance of the law is no excuse" but these days the ones violating the laws are government agents. Then what?

What's The Word?
Hey raise your hand if you know what they call it when the military in a country is also the police force of the country. It is a national shame that we are reduced to this, instead of naming the enemy that declared war on us when I was still a little boy. They are at war with us, but we are not at war with them.
At this rate, who wins the War on Terrah?
They said if I voted for the Republicans the government would try to install a police state and target American citizens in the USA for punishment without trial under military authority . . . and they were right :(

Number of cases of polio, in the whole world, in the last 5 years: zero
Number of countries where polio exists in the wild: zero
Number of countries where polio is in a lab freezer: two (USA & Russia)

Number of drugs not proven to work against polio, just awarded by the Obama administration a $433M no-bid contract to purchase: one

Nothing to See Here
Mish picked up the story. Perhaps it will grow some legs after all:
Previously, if you submitted a Freedom of Information Act Request "they" didn't want to answer, you would get a legalese mumbo-jumbo response about what law they were following when not giving you your information (e.g., national security prevents release). A new rule has been proposed to codify what had been a dirty-little-secret method of turning down the occasional really obnoxious request:
If they don't want to release documents under a FOIA request, under the proposed rule they could just lie and say it doesn't exist. This, of course, comes under the freedom-loving President Obama who promised to have the most open and honest and ethical and horseshitty administration ever. Oh, wait . . .

Daniel Larison Hits A Home Run
The mission in Libya has succeeded, goes the popular narrative. Daniel Larison hit the nail square on the head and drove it home in one blow. If you don't understand why I don't like what just happened, here are several of the reasons succinctly laid out.
Now if you'll excuse me I'm off to see if this Larison person has written anything else of merit. I may have someone else to follow here.
********
Update, later: As if I didn't have enough to read, I just bookmarked Larison's blog: Eunomia.

Man Is Murdered, CIA Whistles, Looks At Sky
He was captured alive and wanted for trial in the International Criminal Court. He was murdered by his captors before his trial could bring out any interesting secrets.
Street justice, or foreign intelligence agency intervention? Does your answer change when you realize there was a French fighter jet AND a United States' Predator drone flying overhead when he was captured?
Oh, and here's a fun bit of sarcastic consideration for you: We spent $1.1B and got our less-preferred head of state killed without putting any "boots on the ground." We were able to do this, because the boots worn by CIA operatives in uniform is called Tactical Footgear, 1 Each; and the footwear worn by CIA agents in deep cover in Libya are SANDALS.
Boots on the ground, if it means uniformed troops walking around, is exactly ZERO different from flying a predator drone in from Nevada. The United States, under the 'leadership' of President Obama, has committed unprovoked war against a foreign nation, and aided the murder of that nation's leader. By way of contrast, in President Bush's war, we had a straight-up war, caught the guy, then he was duly tried for his crimes and killed by his own State.
Is this the change you were hoping for?

Obama Administration: Hiding Their Lies, Top-Down
Not only were they lying to you about global warming climate change, they knew they were lying, and went to such an extent to hide their lies as to make a whole separate cloud where they could exchange electronic communications in what they THOUGHT was a region beyond the scope of Freedom of Information Act requests.
They thought wrong. This is yet another huge, scandalous cover-up story for the lamestream press to ignore.

Despised by the Despicable
Yes, I think he just called the Secretary of State a despicable person. But I'm pretty sure she already knows what he thinks about her. MBV laughs at the prospect of President Obama's Secretary putting him on a kill list.
If justice and liberty are dearer to his heart than his own life, there is no terror for the enemy of the State . . . especially if he is the enemy of the State because he seeks to instill justice and liberty IN the State!
Still, you might say a few prayers for his ongoing health and safety . . . .

Crooked? These Guys? Never!
The Environmental Protection Agency did a bad job on the studies, had one of their cronies on the panel, failed to release the studies to the public, and then clearly failed to apply logic to their assessment of their rulings's economic impact. They were studying whether the gas you produce as you breathe out is poison. It has been declared poison, and the EPA regulates it. At the time, one man in the agency was vilified for speaking out against the scientific farce underway. Turns out he was right.
Now is the time to write your Congressman. The economy of our nation is about to be crushed under watermelon* regulations. And they are planning to do nothing about it. Congress MUST force the EPA to re-do this ridiculous study, properly. If they do that, the result must be different or there is no point in having an America anymore.
That the timing of the EPA's declaration is highly political should not be a surprise. The Obama administration is crooked as . . . well, crooked as a Chi-town politician. Sad, but not surprising.

Silly Goose Stepper You Don't Suspend Elections!
. . . all the really hip tyrants know you rig elections.
North Carolina's (hopefully outgoing) Governess Purdue said she would like to see Congressional elections suspended so our Elected Heroes could get on with fixing the country instead of fighting during election seasons.
She forgets, perhaps, that the Congress has been totally stalled-out since the current crop of politicrats was sworn in twoanahaff years ago, and they are so deeply divided they couldn't fix their way out of a wet paper sack. Also, our country started with a war over taxation without representation and we have WAY more guns now than we did back then.
Great job, North Carolina, you elected a fool.

Funny Thing About "Free"
Texas just passed HB1481 (the respectful language act) into law. This was promoted as a feel-good measure so we don't hurt the feelings of retards. Representative Vicki Truitt has demonstrated herself to be somewhat lacking in mental capacity because of one sentence:
"It costs nothing"
Hold on there.
Then the Health & Human Services Commission is ordered to do a review to help with statutory revisions. This I suppose will also cost the taxpayer nothing? Then there will be a recommendation which will, again, be prepared, typed, disseminated, read, and commented-upon while people are NOT on the clock in their State offices?
The commissioners are going to "ensure" that the appropriate, nonbutthurting language is used. You know how that's done? Proposals, proposals of rulemaking, comment periods, revisals of proposed rules, preparation, writing, publishing, reading, and training on proper implementation of the rules. All this is, according to Rep. Truitt, "free."
Also free: webhosting! The State of Texas has Hosting Faries who pay to host the text of stupid laws like this on the Internet, and IT Faries maintain the servers donated by Server Fairy. You see what you did there? You cost the State money by clicking that link. NOT free. Duh?
********
All of this is stupid anyway. Retarded is a word and everyone who speaks English knows exactly what it means. It is based on the word Retard, which is a VERB, not a noun. You don't base STATE LAW on the misuse of the English language, you train your children in school how properly to treat the language!
They didn't run a survey onretarded persons with intellectual disability to see if "the R word" hurts their feelings or not. This new law is only to protect the sensibilities of people who get offended on the behalf of other people who don't get offended because they're not smart P.C. enough.
And here's the dirty little secret: they get offended when you say retard, because they look down on the retards. The tools whose idea this law was, disrespect retarded persons 'way down deep in their own hearts, and they want to legislate their wicked lack of compassion away from themselves.
"It costs nothing to adopt verbiage in state statutes to reflect the fact that we recognize individuals and their uniqueness, without using offensive terms to categorize and label these good Texans."
"It costs nothing"
Hold on there.
- So the staffers wrote the bill on their personal time, off the clock, pro bono publico?
- The vote to pass the bill was held on members' personal time, not during a regular legislative session?
- The governor, he signed it for free also? We didn't pay him for those five minutes?
- And the memoranda that will be distributed to all the State employees, those are typed and distributed free of charge?
- When the employees are reading said memos, they will surely be off the clock?

Better Than A Trash Dump?
One can hardly expect the Right Thing to be done by New London, in light of recent history, but does anyone really think turning the woman's home into a garbage dump is better than saying "haha, woopsy!" and handing her back the deed?
