Gun Porn: Thompson Center Contender

First up in the current gun pr0n series, we have a Legitimate Sporting Weapon, with a bit of a naughty flavor. This is a Thompson Contender with a .44 Magnum barrel with a silencer mount. Because I am not and only one, by the time I got my hands on it, the only thing left of the silencer was its mount on the end of the barrel.

At first glance, it is quite nice.

Closer inspection reveals generally good cosmetic condition, with super smooth bluing. There are a few dings in the wood, however, and one set of rust spots by the hammer. Also, some soon-to-be felon put his phone number in the metal. And a beaver. Why a beaver? I have no idea.

The etched cougar on both sides is in really nice condition, as is the heel plate. The back of the hammer is a little gimped up, probably from the same "oops" that smished the top of the grip. There is also a cocking aid of some sort uglying up the top of the hammer.

When I first cocked the hammer and pulled the trigger, it was like buttered magic. Right around the 3lbs. mark, the trigger breaks and the hammer falls. I almost couldn't feel the break. There is NO creep. There is NO slack. It is like a switch. Truly impressive.

What's that? You want to see the silencer mount? Sure, here it is. Also note the very strong rifling and moderatly shiny bore. The silencer mount is inside threaded, so the muzzle of the barrel looks almost normal if you don't mind the set screws.

I don't think that is a silencer mount - Barney obviously did.

I've not seen one exactly like yours, but it looks like it accepts the choke attachment for shooting birdshot. Also, theat hammer extension is quite common. It is used mainly when a scope is attached to the gun. With a scope attached it is sometimes difficult to squeeze your thumb under the scope to to cock the hammer - Hence the extension. I've got a Contender as well - very fun!
