Well, there is that. Primarily I do it because of the convenience. When I am fresh and ready to go, I can get in and drive away. The tedious backing up and changing directions is reserved for a time when I have been driving already and don't mind the minor hassle of parking.
It is also theoretically a gas-saving and pollution-reducing measure, as the reversing is done while the engine is warmed up. You spend a second or two less at idle with a cold engine if you just drive straight away.
